Dear friends in Costa Rica, please have Casey Douglas sing this song to the tune of "That's What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction. Enjoy this gift from the DR team. (possible music video following)
Verse 1:
We're in DR
And you are not.
We're with Chantel
We poured cement
And it was hot, hot, hot.
Verse 2:
You're in CR
You drove all night
30 people plus their bags,
makes a full flight, ight, ight.
Pre-Chorus:
Everyone else on the blog can see it
Everyone else but you-ou
Chorus:
GT you sent out two teams and we're finally there.
The climate is messing with all our hair.
It's nice to know our GT friends and family really care.
In case you didn't kn-o-o-w. DR might be better.
Oh-o-o
Cause we're enduring dangerous weather.
Verse 3:
We're in DR
Giant moths here
You're in CR
motel living
with no fe-e-ear
Verse 4:
Our food is better
There's so much meat
Glad that the Petersons are there,
so they can eat.
Verse 5:
You're in CR.
"Sporadic Rain"
Ya'll are insane
We're approaching a full hurricane - an - ane.
Pre-Chorus:
Everyone else on the blog can see it
Everyone else but you-ou
Chorus:
GT you sent out two teams and we're finally there.
The climate is messing with Keelor's hair.
It's nice to know our GT friends and family really care.
In case you didn't kn-o-o-w. DR might be better.
Oh-o-o
Cause wish we were together.
Slow Chorus:
Here in DR it's ice cream every other night.
But in the jungle I bet you're not so alright.
Congo line and cupid shuffle might be fun and
you might know-o-o. DR might be better.
Oh-o-o - we wish were together!!!!
That's fantastic! You guys must be having a blast ! Praying the storm is passing you by ! Love you K and A !
ReplyDeleteWe were up and ready for devotions bright and early today. Then we piled our things into the bus and headed out to bring VBS "GT style" to some children in a small rural area near La Vega. Children slowly but steadily began pouring into the church and by 10:00 we were ready to begin. Our team led the children in "Superhero" and "Tomalo" and by the end of the service most of the Dominicans were dancing and clapping along. The Sin Chair drama went a little awry when the "Chair" physically broke in the middle of the skit,Cassie will now go down in history for breaking sin. Danielle gave an awesome children's lesson and helped the children learn how special each of them is in God's sight. Then we split the group of 60+ children into 3 groups. They worked on a craft, a snack and outdoor games.
ReplyDeleteThere were so many highlights and it was such a high-energy time that really brought out the best in everyone. Kudos to Andrea for orchestrating so many children in such a tiny space.
Our youth were touched by how a simple Polaroid photo could bring such joy to a child, while in the US they take "selfies" all the time.
At the games station, Cassie, Justin, Hannah, Caleb and Mike led the children in multiple parachute games and "Simon dice" even as the rain began to fall.
During snack, the children were delighted to make a simple, interesting "face" using a graham cracker, icing and some decorations.
Seeing their faces, hesitant smiles, dancing with them, realizing how strong their family bonds are, and watching their hopeless eyes turn into a broad smile were just some of the highlights the youth shared.
After that we had lunch and went out to see the area. We learned some history of the Dominican Republic as we saw a cathedral and monument.
We returned home to a delectable home-cooked dinner of shepherd's pie, salad and warm brownies. Mmmmmm :)
After a quick stop for frozen yogurt and arm wrestling we returned home for "Family Time."
We all shared who our Heroes of the Day were and then God really moved in his Holy Spirit as Pastor Eran led the youth in prayer for direction in their lives and/or healing from hurts. Each and every one of us was touched by God in a powerful way as He used us all as His vessels to pray with and encourage one another.
One final thought, after lunch as we were gathering to discuss our plans for the afternoon, Caleb and Justin began to casually play around with their guitars. Before we knew it, we were all singing a beautiful chorus of "White Flag" with thunder punctuating in the background. (and a few neighborhood dogs) It was just another moment when we all "surrendered" to God.
We are happy to report that we have had rain and thunder on and off, but have not seen any damage. It is supposed to continue to rain tomorrow, but we don't plan on allowing that to deter us from our VBS plan for the morning. We would appreciate your prayers that all would go smoothly and that children would arrive safely ready to receive God's Word into their hearts.
Hi Everyone!
ReplyDeleteSo great seeing your posts and pictures. Asking God to continue the POWERFUL stuff He's doing in each of you. I literally got Holy Spirit goose bumps reading today's post!
The Dominican kids have GOT my heart FOR SURE! Eran I LOVED that little one you got to hang out with today.
Hearing about your amazing Family Time--so great. I LOVE the "family bonding" time! (you have to use an accent when you read that part---it's from some movie--"We Do the Manly Bonding!"... OH... Wedding Planner. )
And Hearing that My BOY was playing and leading some worship... now THAT KID will melt my heart like no other and MAKE ME SMILE~!!
Now for a laugh-- I have NEVER seen a picture or video of (I literally just scrolled up to see the name of the group) One Direction so I was at a loss to try to hum the tune and read along with your super DR/CR song. I pulled it up on YouTube and played it along and read your lyrics. I didn't even see the video since I was watching your creative lyrics....so I'm keeping my record of "Never Watched A One Direction video". I feel good about that. I did however see their faces at the end of the video so ...my record of having no idea what One Direction looks like it was blown. BTW- they look about 13 years old. Are they really that young? I diverge.
You guys ROCK! I love you all!
julie (holt)--PS- I love you babe.
What an awesome sharing - thanks so much for bringing your experiences so much closer to us. I LOVED your lyrics and I do know how the tune goes- although I always end up calling them First Dimension :) You must have had so much fun writing and singing them. I prayed for DR concerning the hurricane that was upon you. I then turned on the weather channel (those who know me know that that is not unusual). Right then they were showing DR and stating how the hurricane had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Praise God!
ReplyDeleteKeep on going strong! In my Bible Promise book, I looked up verses that pertain to courage and I thought I would share two of them with you. Isaiah 40:29 states "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." Psalms 31:24 states "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord." Love you and miss you.
Sounds like you guys are having fun and doing lots of fantastic things! Praying for you all :) Stay safe and drink lots of water and keep being awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I 'm sure that you all are being touched in such a way that is more profound than you will ever know. Some of these children and adults will never forget the time they spent with you. YOU ARE CHANGING LIVES! That is what being a Christian is all about. Know that we all miss you and are praying for your safety and that God continues to use you to bring forward his fruit and blessings. Love and Miss you sooo much K & A!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to read how each of you is being used! Proud of you! Praying each moment will be burned into your heart. Que Dios los bendiga esta noche!!!
